Common use

Medexil 75 mg is a medication that is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence in males. The medical condition when a male loses the ability to get and maintain an erection is called ED. Sildenafil Citrate is the active ingredient. Physicians may prescribe this medicine to treat other health conditions such as pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This medication belongs to the class of medicines called phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE-5) inhibitors.

Dosage and direction

The recommended dose per day is usually one tablet. If you do not notice the desired results, your doctor may increase the dosage. Use a glass full of water to swallow the tablet and avoid other beverages such as grapefruit juice or alcohol. It is not recommended to consume fatty meals while you taking the tablet because you may experience delayed effects.

Precautions

Tell your healthcare professional about your medical history. In addition, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to the ingredients of the drug or if you have any disease. For example: Liver disease (such as hepatitis B, and hepatitis C); Dehydration; Eye disease (such as retinitis pigmentosa); Kidney problems; Stomach ulcers; Bleeding disorders; Penis conditions (such as Peyronie’s disease); Medical conditions that may increase the risk of priapism (such as multiple myeloma, sickle cell anemia, and others); Diabetes; Heart disease (such as stroke, irregular heartbeat, heart failure, myocardial infarction, and others).

Contraindications

Limit or avoid consuming alcoholic drinks while you are on treatment with Medexil. It may increase the risk of side effects.
Medexil contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Sildenafil. It is also contraindicated in patients with pulmonary veno-occlusive disease, stomach ulcer, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, patients who had a heart attack, heart failure, angina, irregular heartbeat, stroke, chest pain, high or low blood pressure, high cholesterol, bleeding disorder, blood circulation problems, blood cell problems such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, leukemia, eye disease or diabetes.

Possible side effect

Stop taking Medexil and consult a doctor immediately, if you notice any of the following side effects: Non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION); Priapism; Chest pain; Dizziness during sexual activity; Irregular heartbeats; Hypertension (high blood pressure); Hypotension (low blood pressure).
Usual side effects of Medexil: Headache ; Heartburn; Diarrhea; Nausea; Flushing; Nosebleeds; Pain in muscles, arms, and legs.

Drug interaction

Inform your healthcare professional about all products that you are using before taking Medexil. For example prescription medications, nonprescription medications, vitamins, supplements, herbal products, and others. Some medicines may interact with Medexil and change how this drug works such as decreasing the effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Check some examples of drug interaction: Riociguat; Rifampin; Warfarin; Nitroglycerin; Isosorbide; Amyl or butyl nitrite; Doxazosin; Tamsulosin; ED drugs with other active ingredients such as Tadalafil, Vardenafil, Avanafil, and others; Ritonavir; Ketoconazole; Itraconazole; Boceprevir; Clarithromycin.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose of Medexil, take it as soon as you remember. But, if the next dose is near, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing regime.

Overdose

In case you accidentally take an overdose of this medication and experience severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor. Strict adherence to the prescribed dose is essential.

Storage

Store Medexil in places away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep away from children and pets.
